โครงการ “รวมใจใช้ซอฟต์แวร์แท้แห่งชาติ” ซึ่งล่วงเข้าสู่ปีที่สองนี้ เป็นความพยายามของทั้งทางภาครัฐ และ เอกชนเพื่อลดการละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ซอฟต์แวร์ในประเทศไทย โดยมุ่งให้ความรู้แก่ธุรกิจและประชาชนทั่วไปถึงคุณค่า ของทรัพย์สินทางปัญญาด้านซอฟต์แวร์ผ่านทางการโฆษณาประชาสัมพันธ์ จดหมายส่งตรง และการสัมมนาบริหาร สินทรัพย์ประเภทซอฟต์แวร์

แผนต้านการละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ซอฟต์แวร์ ซึ่งรวมถึงการปิดฉากการละเมิดในระดับค้าปลีกอย่างเป็นทางการในวันนี้ นับเป็นการต่อยอดโครงการในปี 2551 ซึ่งเน้นการให้ความรู้และการบังคับใช้กฎหมายเรื่องทรัพย์สินทางปัญญา แก่ภาคธุรกิจทั่วประเทศ โดยมีองค์กรภาคเอกชนที่ให้การสนับสนุนโครงการในครั้งนี้ประกอบด้วย สำนักงานส่งเสริม อุตสาหกรรมซอฟต์แวร์แห่งชาติ (องค์การมหาชน) หรือ SIPA สมาคมอุตสาหกรรมซอฟต์แวร์ (เอทีเอสไอ) สมาคม อุตสาหกรรมเทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศไทย (เอทีซีไอ) กลุ่มพันธมิตรธุรกิจซอฟต์แวร์ (บีเอสเอ) รวมทั้งกลุ่มผู้จำหน่าย ซอฟต์แวร์ชั้นนำ

นอกจากนี้ทางภาครัฐยังได้ทำข้อตกลงกับผู้ผลิตซอฟต์แวร์ชั้นนำ เช่น อโดบี ออโต้เดสค์ ไมโครซอฟท์ ไซแมนเทค และไทยซอฟต์แวร์ เอ็นเตอร์ไพร์ส ให้มอบส่วนลดให้แก่ธุรกิจขนาดกลาง และขนาดย่อมของไทย รายละเอียด สามารถดูได้ที่นี่ โดยตัวแทนจำหน่ายซอฟต์แวร์ที่ได้รับคัดเลือกยังจะไปร่วม แนะนำผลิตภัณฑ์ในงานสัมมนาบริหาร สินทรัพย์ประเภทซอฟต์แวร์ที่จะจัดขึ้นทั่วประเทศอีกด้วย

เนคเทคลงนามร่วม 5 บริษัทจำหน่ายคอมพิวเตอร์ในประเทศไทย เปิดโลโก้สินค้าของตนเองบนซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส มุ่งเป้าผลักดันการใช้งานซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส เพื่อลดการละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ ลดการเสียค่าลิขสิทธิ์ และส่งเสริมการวิจัยและพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สเพื่อการพัฒนาธุรกิจ ซอฟต์แวร์ที่เข้มแข็ง ผ่านความร่วมมือกับผู้ประกอบธุรกิจเพื่อเพิ่มศักยภาพและความเข้มแข็งในการ พัฒนาเทคโนโลยีด้านซอฟต์แวร์ มุ่งหวังที่จะทำให้การวิจัยและพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีถ่ายทอดสู่กลุ่ม ธุรกิจ

ลงนามในบันทึกข้อตกลงการส่งเสริมการใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส กับ บริษัท เอสวีโอเอ จำกัด (มหาชน) บริษัท โพเวล คอมพิวเตอร์ จำกัด บริษัท ซิเน็ค ประเทศไทย จำกัด(มหาชน) กลุ่มบริษัท ดีคอมพิวเตอร์ จำกัด และบริษัท ไอที เบเกอรี่ จำกัด โดยเอกชนทั้ง 5 บริษัทจะนำซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สไปใช้สนับสนุนการดำเนินธุรกิจของตนเองโดยการ ติดตั้งและจำหน่ายพร้อมคอมพิวเตอร์มีสัญญาลักษณ์โลโก้สินค้าเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ของตนเอง ช่วยสร้างความแตกต่างให้กับผลิตภัณฑ์รวมทั้งยังเป็นการแสดงถึงภาพลักษณ์ของผู้ประกอบธุรกิจ และเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้การพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์เพื่อส่งเสริมธุรกิจสู่การใช้ งานในประเทศ เพิ่มศักยภาพความเป็นไปได้ในการพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์เพื่อการผลิตและจำหน่ายภายใน และส่งออกต่างประเทศ ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สดังกล่าวมีลักษณะพิเศษที่อนุญาตให้มีการพัฒนาต่อยอดและ นำไปเผยแพร่ใช้งานอย่างเสรี จึงเป็นประโยชน์อย่างยิ่งสำหรับผู้ประกอบการนำไปใช้สนับสนุนการดำเนินธุรกิจ โดยเฉพาะในยุคที่มีการแข่งขันสูง ในช่วงที่ต้องเผชิญกับวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจเช่นนี้

ดร.พันธ์ศักดิ์ ศิริรัชตพงษ์ ผู้อำนวยการเนคเทคกล่าวในโอกาสร่วมในพิธีลงนามความร่วมมือและงานสัมมนา นโยบายส่งเสริมการใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สสำหรับหน่วยงานภาครัฐว่า “การจัดพิธีลงนามความร่วมมือส่งเสริมการใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สกับผู้ประกอบธุรกิจคอมพิวเตอร์ แสดงถึงความเป็นไปได้ของการใช้งานซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส ที่พัฒนาจากนักวิจัยทั่วโลก อย่างมีมาตรฐานระดับสากล และเปิดซอร์สโคส ให้แก่นักวิจัยทั่วไปสามารถนำมาใช้พัฒนาต่อยอดธุรกิจ เพิ่มโอกาสนักวิจัยในการพัฒนาธุรกิจด้านซอฟต์แวร์สู่ตลาดโลกได้ นโยบายส่งเสริมการใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สสำหรับหน่วยงานภาครัฐ นั้น มีเป้าหมายในการนำเสนอ การส่งเสริมซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส ในสอดคล้องกับ แผนการพัฒนาเศษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งชาติ แผนแม่บทด้าน ICT และความสอดคล้องกับสำนักงบประมาณ เพื่อลดปัญหาการละเมิดลิขสิทธิ์ และช่วยลดค่าใช้จ่ายงบประมาณในการจัดซื้อซอฟต์แวร์ลิขสิทธิ์ที่มีราคาแพง ในช่วงเศรษฐกิจกำลังตกต่ำ ซึ่งปัจจุบันมีหน่วยงานของรัฐและเอกชน จำนวนมากเริ่มใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์สมากขึ้น เนคเทคได้่นำเสนอให้หน่วยงานของรัฐรับทราบนโยบายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการส่งเสริมการใช้ซอฟต์แวร์โอเพนซอร์ส เพื่อการนำมาใช้ประกอบการพิจารณาปรับปรุงแผนการใช้งบประมาณ เพื่อช่วยให้ประเทศไทยฝ่าวิกฤตเศรษฐกิจร่วมกัน”

DTrace implementation in FreeBSD

While the DTrace in FreeBSD is very similar to that found in Solaris™, differences exist that should be explained before continuing. The primary difference users will notice is that on FreeBSD, DTrace needs to be specifically enabled. There are kernel options and modules which must be enabled for DTrace to work properly. These will be explained later. There is a DDB_CTF kernel option which is used to enable support for loading the CTF data from kernel modules and the kernel itself. CTF is the Solaris Compact C Type Format which encapsulates a reduced form of debugging information similar to DWARF and the venerable stabs. This CTF data is added to the binaries by the ctfconvert and ctfmerge build tools. The ctfconvert utility parses DWARF debug ELF sections created by the compiler and ctfmerge merges CTF ELF sections from objects into either executables or shared libraries. Installing Ubuntu 8.10 in VirtualBox

Installing VirtualBox is pretty easy, download the application which supports Windows XP, Linux 32bit/64bit, OS X, Solaris and OpenSolaris as the host operating system and then follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation.

XO adaptation of Ubuntu Intrepid

this release is intended to be reliable and consistent.
Kernel is from OLPC release 8.2.0. USB boot fix in ramdisk is the only change that was applied to OLPC-distributed files.
Ubuntu packages are properly identified as manually/automatically installed for easier customization, patched files are diverted, so package manager won’t replace them on upgrades.
Network Manager 0.7 is in Intrepid — there is no need for custom repositories.
clive package in Intrepid is also up to the latest version, so tubewatcher script is included without clive replacement.
Firefox default configuration is adapted to screen resolution (larger fonts but no scaling for images), and libraries that come with xulrunner are replaced with ones that come with Firefox 3.0.4 release (for some reason libraries from xulrunner package occasionally replace images with noise).
syslog is removed — logging to SD or USB takes large amount of resources.
Power management is by default enabled, “aggressive” power management mode that “invisibly” suspends on inactivity is by default disabled but can be enabled with sudo touch /etc/xo-suspend/aggressive and reboot, disabled with sudo rm /etc/xo-suspend/aggressive and reboot
GTK theme is adapted to the changes in theme engines that come with Ubuntu — it looks slightly better now, though differences are minimal.
Splash screen is shown on boot and shutdown.
